Central Line Touring is a company of professional artists. Firmly rooted in theatre, the company creates new texts and devises new performances, embracing many influences. It also re-interprets classic dramas, making them relevant to current social, political and artistic contexts. The imperative is to take risks and to be rigorous in the production of challenging and relevant work that is accessible to as wide an audience as possible. It is active in enriching the artistic and cultural ecology locally, regionally and nationally.
Last year the company produced an extremely succesful production of Much Ado About Nothing as well as Hedda Gabler which was given a 4 star review by THE INDEPENDENT and is currently rehearsing for a production of Accidental Death of an Anarchist which will run at The Garrick from 4 - 25 Nov 2008 (click on next production for details).

Director Kim Gillespie has successfully combined a career as an actor/director with one as a theatre trainer and educator for the past 25 years. For two years he was an Associate Director of the Cambridge Shakespeare Festival - `Kim Gillespie drags more comedy out of 15 square feet of turf and sharp choreography than some of the more expensive West end sets, juicy, scintillating, top drawer. Go see it tomorrow.` Cambridge evening News. Kim’s theatre practice has been eclectic. He is interested in classical as well as contemporary theatre, choreographic technique and visual theatre. He is interested in true ensemble work – performers being empowered and having ownership of their work. The principles of using a wide range of techniques and styles to attack creative problems coupled with dynamic rehearsal processes give Kim’s work a real sense of event. What comes through clearly in his work is the impact that can be achieved when artistic boundaries – for actors and text – are pushed to their limit. Kim has a strong interest in the relationship between direction and choreography and is always striving to produce dynamic and exciting events. |
